Life After Racing
For those better performed or bred horses, a life as a stallion or broodmare is an option. However, for those lacking pedigree and race-performance, or for geldings, you will have to seek an alternative.
There are several options available to you that ensure your horse goes on to live a happy and fulfilling life outside of racing.
We recommend you consult with your trainer regarding which options suit your horse, as soundness and temperament will play a
role in the decision. Many trainers have networks of experienced horse people who specialise in taking thoroughbreds off the track and
preparing them for a life after racing. You can also contact your state Principal Racing Authority for advice and assistance. A number of
them have dedicated retraining and rehoming programs.
